For many years there was this neglected patch of ground behind one of the buildings at work. The building had been renovated but the area immediately behind it was never completely cleaned up. Bits of construction debris and lots of gravel remained piled there for reasons none of us understood.
Finally, one of the women who worked in the building asked the head groundskeeper if he would at least cover it with mulch. He complied. But she wasn’t finished. She brought in a few coreopsis plants (a.k.a. Tickseed) and managed to wedge them down between the gravel that was still under the mulch. Anyone who’s planted coreopsis knows how happily it will spread itself around if given a chance. And, now, just a couple of years later, it has. (Thanks, D, the rest of us appreciate it!)
